The closest hair transplantation technique was applied to eyebrows and eyelashes in Japan in the 1930’s. However, the world became aware of these developments in Japan.
The first hair transplantation for me with baldness was performed in New York in 1952.In the 1980’s, mini and micro-graft techniques were invented with applying by drilling hairless areas 4 mm.
The FUT (Follicular Unit Transplantation) technique, which was used in the 1930’s for the first time, took place in the field of medicine by the studies which were made in 1995. FUT technique is the transfer of hair follicules within clusters. The follicules between 1 and 4 are separated and transplanted into the area which has hair loss.
Surgical scar may be left in the area which the hairs are collected. It is generally not preferred within the new developments when the dates show the middle of 2000’s.The FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) technique, which was implemented in Japan in 1988 and which is very widespread at the moment, took it’s place in the field of medicine in 2002.Unlike FUT technique, the follicules are not seperated within clusters one by one with 1 mm drill in this technique. The collected hairs are placed one by one into the area to be transplanted and the abrasions in the area disappear after a week.
The transplanted hair begins to shed in a month and it starts to grow in 2 to 3 months after that in general. While a scar is left after FUT process, such situation is not possible in FUE process. Moreover, FUE does not require shaving while the hair follicles are shaved in FUT.A robot, which collects the hair follicles by FUE technique, was developed in 2013.In addition to it,this technique was described as robotic hair transplantation. The doctor technically programs and guides the robot in this process. The hair follicles collected by the robot are placed into the area to be transplanted by doctor. The hair should be kept shorter than 3 mm length to enable the robot tos can the hair follicles.Surgery time is shortened and it provides solutions to many people with this technique, which can be considered as a revolution in hair transplantation process.
